Safety Starts In The Bedroom

Yes, it really does!

Despite the contribution globally by many individuals and organisations to reduce workplace accidents through fatigue management, including changes to rosters and working hours, and fatigue monitoring technologies, there remains much work to be done.

With yearly fluctuations in safety performance, sustainable gains seem out of reach and fatigue management continues to be a challenge for many industries.

At SleepSpot, we believe than an aspect of fatigue which has been under-appreciated by many organisations, is the role of employee sleep health.

When 4 out of 10 adults report insufficient sleep on a daily or several-days-a-week basis, we need to take note!

Getting enough sleep is crucial for our overall health and wellbeing and also for our ability to stay safe, be happy and perform well.

In terms of safety, poor sleep has a detrimental impact on a person’s daytime alertness resulting in delayed reaction times, errors in judgement, poor decision-making, and an increase in risk-taking behaviour.

So yes, safety does start in the bedroom!

There's an opportunity here for organisations to prioritise sleep health and recognise its importance on safety performance alongside other critical WHS safety controls.

A solution that we've been working on for two years, is an Employee Sleep Program that provides employees with the tools and support they need to prioritise and optimise their sleep health and reduce fatigue.
